Shirley Lynn

I often meet new co-writers via the Australian Songwriters Conference, but during my first, I was too shy to talk to anyone. It was a pretty overwhelming experience and gave me a lot of food for thought on whether, or not, to call myself a songwriter.

When I recognised her at the second one (that we both attended in 2019), I made a beeline for her and welcomed her back to the Central Coast, as she would travel with her husband in their camper van from Cairns (Far North Queensland). We would later meet again at DAG for their winter retreat.

Not long after the buzz wore down from the conference, (and WAY before the Pandemic forced everyone to work online), Shirley and I taught ourselves how to write in real time (rather than emails back and forth) and master the art of communicating via video (when the captioning tools were quite lax until Covid appeared).

We had many wonderfully profound conversations about life and everything in-between and our song Temporary Time evolved naturally during the early days of the pandemic. This song was my first professional artist release. Shirley’s voice is like butter, it’s smooth and I could honestly listen to her list all the names and addressed in the phone book

(C) Shirley A Lynn and Christine M Kerr

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 2021

V1

Too much gloom on the TV

Mixed messages every night

Tryin’ to figure out what’s wrong

Tryin’ to figure out what’s right

V2

People I know are hurtin’

They’ve fallen to their knees

Tryin’ to work out how to live

Tryin’ to work  out how to breathe

In this Temporary Time…

CHORUS:

It’s not gonna last  forever

Life is for living;   however

Be patient, be kind,

In this Temporary Time

V3

Can you hear the birds are singing?

Can you see the clear blue sky?

Do you feel change in your presence?

Enough to wonder why

V4

Why the disconnection

From Mother Nature and the Earth

She’s calling our attention

To appreciate her worth

In this Temporary Time…

 CHORUS:

It’s not gonna last  forever

Life is for living;   however

Be patient, be kind,

In this Temporary Time

In this Temporary Time

Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

Responsibility, our humanity,

Our children’s legacy

Responsibility, our humanity,

Our children’s legacy
