Christine M Kerr

writing songs since 2008 …

I’ll try and keep this short…

For as long as I have known, words have been my solace.

When I’m stressed, I write.  Worried? I draw up an exit plan.  In love; I pour my heart out.  Angry, I vent my fury.  I’m not known for sending short text messages.  Where I fail to express myself verbally, I shine with the written word.

But I’m no Shakespeare.  It’s been a lifelong journey experimenting with different categories to discover (purely by accident) that writing songs is what I’m meant to be doing.

In 2008, I penned my first lyric; inspired by the native beauty of our new home and the vistas it offered. As the words took shape, I found myself immersed in a world of creativity, fueled by an insatiable desire to capture life's moments in melody.

The internet became my Teacher.  It offered a wealth of resources on songwriting. I devoured every tip, poured over books cover to cover, and found myself swamped with song ideas at every turn. Nothing was off limits.  Why was this craft so compelling?  Why have I continued to write for over 15 years?

Eventually I discovered online challenges like FAWM, 50/90, and Song Fancy’s 5 in 5.  These proved instrumental in honing my lyrical prowess. I came upon the Australian Songwriters Conference website by chance (or perhaps Fate) and urged its revival, delving into the art of co-writing and expanding my circle of songsmiths.  This changed the direction of my songwriting career in ways I could never have imagined.

Putting myself out there became a mantra, even when the path ahead seemed uncertain and scary.  I bumbled through songwriter nights at the local pubs and embraced the camaraderie that came from attending songwriter retreats.  Each experience reshaped my identity until I could finally embrace the title of "songwriter" with pride.

Today, I collaborate with artists near and far, weaving words and melodies that resonate with audiences worldwide.  I expect to be buried with my pens.

Media kit blurb 2024:

She moulds words into interesting, thought provoking songs that get you thinking, feeling and appreciating the intricacies of life.  Light and shade, joy and misery, humour and sarcasm, versatility is key. Her eyes are her ears; listening with a delicate balance of muscle memory and amplified sound.  She chips away the barriers set by strangers, achieving her goals while helping others do the same. She’s no April Fool.

Born in NZ's Deep South (but considers herself Australian), Christine M Kerr transforms into Chariot Baldwin nearly every day as she follows her passion for songwriting with an unwavering resolve.  An award-winning songwriter, she's co-written songs with artists around the world and is a much sought after songstress.

A regular participant in FAWM and 50/90, Christine has developed her lyrical song-writing muscles that would make any co-writer proud to work with her.   Words and ideas come easily, (often at a machine gun speed) when others struggle to articulate what they mean to say.

Together they find the missing components to write the best song they can. Recognising when to push and when to marinate and idea or lyric, Christine M Kerr is definitely a songwriter to keep on your radar when writing for your next album or single.
